Np [New York], 1853-63, 1878-1903. 6 volumes, folio and large folio, comprising approximately 2500 pages (including blanks), written in pencil and ink in commercial ledger books, bound in calf or russia, spines gilt-lettered, very worn. Detailed business records from the golden age of the American railroads, recording capital stock, bond issues, freight earnings, passenger earnings, telegraph earnings, etc., for several susidiary lines operated by the NYC & HRR Co., including the Yonkers Rapid Transit Co., the Manhattan Railway Co., the New York and New England Railway Co. Two of the volumes comprise Treasurers' ledgers; one for September 1853 through April 1863, showing that in the year 1863 earnings had swelled to $5.6 million. (6)
