The History of the Revolution of South-Carolina, from a British Province to an Independent State, 2 volumes, 1st edition, Trenton, Isaac Collins, 1785, five folding engraved maps by Thomas Abernethie (with a couple of short closed tears), Sketch of the Operations before Charleston map in the second state (with 'Approatches' corrected), lacking volume II title and both half titles, some light offsetting and spotting, light marginal water stain to a fw leaves in volume II, endpapers renewed, contemporary tree calf, modern calf rebacks, red stain to volume I lower cover, a little rubbed, 8vo Howes R36; Sabin 67690. Ramsay's account of the Revolutionary War in the South was mainly derived from the British Annual Register, the maps being amongst the earliest examples of indigenous American cartography. This work, and Ramsay's History of the American Revolution (1789) were the first two books to receive copyright in the United States (in 1790). (2)
