viii, 164 pp. (Small 8vo) 18.2x11.8 cm (7¼x4½"), possibly later patterned wrappers, modern folding cloth case with leather spine label. Rare 18th century book auction catalogue for the dispersal of the library formed by Jean Baptiste Paris de Meyzieu - the Parisiana refers to the collector's name, not the focus of the library. There were additions to the sale from the library of E.C. de Loménie de Brienne. The auction was conducted by Mr. [James] Edwards of London, and Mr. Laurent of Paris. A French-language version of the catalogue was issued in Paris in late 1790. The sale was one of the most famous in the annals of the book trade, the results topping all previous English auctions, with the 636 lots bringing in more than £7,000. In this copy, the prices and buyers are neatly written in ink in a contemporary hand. The full title reads: Bibliotheca Parisiana: a catalogue of a collection of books, formed by a gentleman in France, not less conspicuous for his taste in distinguishing, than for his zeal in acquiring, whatever, of this kind, was most perfect, curious, or scarce. It includes many first editions of the classicks ; books magnificently printed on vellum, with illuminated paintings ; manuscripts on vellum, embellished with rich miniatures ; books of natural History, with the subjects coloured in the best manner, or with the original drawings ; and books of the greatest splendour and rareness in the different classes of literature. To these are added, from another grand collection, selected articles of high value. The whole are in the finest condition, and in bindings superlatively rich. They will be sold by auction, in London, on Monday the 26th of March, 1791, and the five days following, To be viewed the week preceding- Catalogues to be had of Mr. Edwards, No. 102, Pall Mall, London ; of Mr. Laurent, Rue de la Harp, Paris ; and of the principal booksellers throughout Europe.
