.52 caliber, 22" round barrel. S/N 68930, marked on the barrel between the rear sight and barrel band, Sharps Rifle Manufg Co Hartford Conn. Silver plated finish, with walnut stock and forearm. Gothic style Initials engraved on the top of the barrel over new model. Carbine is cased in a Mahogany partitioned case, with compartments containing a flask with hunter scene, cartridges, mold, a knife with stage handle. Case is lined in a period red fabric. This is a super rare Sharps carbine, it is the only known factory casing of Sharps carbine for Civilian sales. Full silver finish ordered by R.K., who's initials are engraved on the top of the barrel. No military inspector's initials anywhere on this carbine. Condition: The case retains almost all of the original finish applied by the factory. The interior of the case is extra fine and shows little wear. One scuff where the bottom of the frame rests. And impressions in the top of the lid from the carbine. The accessories are excellent. A box of cartridges are empty with two cartridges in a plastic bag. Flask retains most of the original lacquer, excellent overall. The carbine retains most of the original silver plated finish with some freckling on the frame, around the breech and hammer. Stock and forearm are excellent retaining all of the original varnish. This specimen is believed by experts to be the only known factory cased commercial Civil War sharps carbine known.
