It isn't recorded when Scheurich modelled this group, though in Autumn 1938 a bronze example was exhibited at the Verein Berliner Künstler (titled 'Chiron und Venus'), and the following year a bronze was sold at the Grosse Deutsche Kunstausstellung in Munich (this time titled 'Chiron und Helena'). The model was produced for the first time in porcelain in January 1941 (when it was listed as 'Centaur mit Nymphe'), and first published in March 1942 by Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld in the periodical 'Die Kunst', where it was described as the abduction of Deianeira by the centaur Nessus.
