RECEIPT BOOK. Manuscript on paper, culinary and medical receipt book of Anna-Maria Meysey, c.1770-1814, 116 leaves, small 4to (196 x 160mm) , blanks, with index, late 18th-century calf-backed marbled boards. Of the approximately 260 receipts, some are attributed to family and friends, including Mrs Wodhull of Thenford (providing recipes for Beef Tea, Lemonade, Orangeade, 'Doctor Lowers Cholic Tincture', and 'For cleaning mahogany tables', among others), Mrs Meysey of Worcester ('To pickle Mangoes'), Sister Turton ('Trentham Cheese' and 'To make Tar Water'), Aunt Meysey Shakenhurst ('To bottle gooseberry's', and 'To make puff Past') and E. Turton (Tooth Powder); Mrs Jefferson is a prolific contributor, while Dr Darwin provides 'An excellent strengthening Jelly' (p.92).
