Regency Brass-Mounted Ebony-Inlaid Mahogany Sideboard in the manner of George Oakley Circa 1810 The crossbanded breakfronted D-shaped top with reeded edge above a frieze centered by a carved sunflower flanked by lion masks with rings, the right side with a hinged storage door, all over cupboard doors, the left door opening to shelves, the right door opening to drawers formerly flanked by tapering reeded columns headed by long leaves and ending in paw feet. Height 38 inches (96.5 cm), length 77 inches (195.6 cm), depth 27 1/2 inches (69.8 cm). The leading London cabinet-maker George Oakley (1773-1840) had extensive premises on Bond Street and the City and undertook commissions for a wide and distinguished circle of patrons, including the Prince Regent, for whom he worked at Carlton House. Very good quality, previous restorations, re-polished, gilding to brass completely rubbed off, old marks and scratches, craquelure to varnish of top, losses to crossbanding of top at back left corner and to frieze to left of sunflower, reeding to back left corner reglued, hinged door to right frieze broken off and lacking some veneeers, brasses with traces of dried polish, losses to collars above feet, age cracks to sides.
