Reginald Marsh (American, 1898-1954) At the Shore Signed and inscribed "To my friend Alex Bartlett Reginald Marsh 1946" l.l. Watercolor on paper, 4 1/4 x 6 in. (10.8 x 15.2 cm), framed. Condition: Mounted onto board, subtle toning, not examined out of frame. Provenance: Collection of a Martha's Vineyard and Texas family. N.B. As aRealist painter, Reginald Marsh depicted everyday scenes of the people of New York. Images of Coney Island, with posed bathers in lively settings, were a favorite of Marsh's. Born in Paris, Marsh moved to America as a young child where he attended Yale and the Art Students' League. He worked as an artist for several newspapers and magazines, perhaps equipping him with the journalistic objectivity that he brought to his depiction of people.
