Buek & Co. after paintings by Henry Alexander Ogden; 13 lithograph plates printed by Isaac Friedenwald. (Folio) 16½x15¼, original brown cloth, title in gilt on front, later paper spine labels; all pages mounted on linen stubs. First Edition. Monumental official presentation of the prescribed uniforms and accessories for the officers and enlisted men of the United States Army of the 1880's. The magnificent color plates depict groups of soldiers both mounted and afoot, in a variety of realistic settings. The black & white plates present a vast array of details and accessories, including epaulettes, helmets and caps, sword belts, chevrons, badges, etc. The painter of the impressive groups, Henry A. Ogden, was born in Philadelphia in 1856 and specialized in paintings of military and historic scenes. Bennett, U. S. Color Plate Books, p. 85; Howes R150.
