[Reliure du XVIe siècle]
Jolie reliure à entrelacs, ornée tardivement d'un médaillon d'Apollon et Pégase.
Fort in-12 (168 x 103 mm). Veau brun à décor d'entrelacs géométriques peints en noir soulignés de filets dorés, mauresques, médaillon central postérieur, dos lisse à faux-nerfs peints (Reliure du XVIe siècle). Remboîtage sur un carnet de feuilles vierges, tranches mouchetées.Coiffes et coins restaurés.
Les contrefaçons d'Apollon et Pégase.
Intéressant exemple de reliure contrefaite, probablement par le faussaire Vittorio Villa vers 1880 : ce faussaire agrémentait d'authentiques reliures du XVIe siècle, comme celle-ci, d'un médaillon figurant Apollon et Pégase, à l'imitation de ceux qui ornaient un groupe de reliures célèbres de l'époque.
Anthony Hobson a montré que ces reliures, que l'on a un temps pensé avoir été réalisées pour Canevarius ou pour un membre de la famille Farnèse, avaient été exécutées pour le banquier bibliophile Giovanni Battista Grimaldi entre 1545 et 1548 (Anthony Hobson Apollo and Pegasus: An Enquiry into the Formation and Dispersal of a Renaissance Library, Amsterdam, Gérard Th. Van Heusden, 1975, et l'article de Michel Wittock, "À propos des reliures, vraies ou frelatées, au médaillon d'Apollon et Pégase", Bulletin du bibliophile, 1998, p. 330-365). 
Sur les deux premières pages de ce carnet, le bibliophile a ainsi commenté ce médaillon : "Faux Canaverius réalisé dans les années 1880 par Vittorio Villa qui employait un médaillon horizontal où la roue du chariot n'avait que 4 rayons au lieu de 5 et l’inscription grecque [signifiant "Tout droit et sans détour"] faisait partie intégrale du cliché au lieu d'être imprimée par d'autres fers.
