(8vo) 21.8x13 cm (8½x5"), period paneled calf, spine tooled in gilt, morocco lettering piece. First Edition. Written with a dry wit and penetrating insight, as in the account of the expansions and contractions of the Republic of St. Marino over its 1300 year history. First edition with p. 125 misprinted as p.215. Armorial bookplate dated 1705 of Charles Montagu, Baron of Kimbolten and 4th Earl of Manchester. From the Kimbolton Castle library, which was sold in 1950 and is now Kimbolten School. Lot Amendments Condition: Joints cracked but cords holding, corners worn, spine ends chipped, label missing portion at left side; foxing within, but overall very good. Item number: 262952
