Description: Replica Edison Kinetoscope, c. 1993 Accurate working replica of an original device exhibited in Vienna, for viewing continuous loops of 35mm film of up to 20 m in length, with electric (230 volt) motor, illumination, film-transport, slotted rotary shutter, single-user viewing portal with lens, start button on the front, paneled light-oak case with glazed side door and lock, height 47 in. Excellent working condition. The Kinotoscope is accompanied by two film strips: a re-enactment of the execution of Mary Stuart and a cartoon. The Kinetoscope viewing device was developed by Thomas Alva Edison and his chief engineer William Dickson in c. 1890. From 1893 Edison opened Kinetoscope salons in New York, other American cities and, further afield, in Europe. For the predominantly male clientele he produced light erotic films, skits and short films featuring popular entertainers of the day. An excellent demonstration model of early cinema technology suitable for use in an interactive museum, exhibition or gallery. Funktionierender Zustand, mit 2 Filmstreifen (1 x Die Enthauptung von Maria Stuart, 1 x Zeichentrickfilm). Originalgetreuer Nachbau von ca. 1993 eines in Wien ausgestellten Gerätes. Kinetoskop-Salons wurden ab 1893 in New York und weiteren Städten auch in Europa eröffnet. Für das meist männliche Publikum produzierte Edison vornehmlich erotische und spannende Filme in seinem Filmstudio "Black Maria". Ein wichtiges Funktionsmodell früher kinematographischer Technik.
