Extracts from a Military Essay, containing Reflections on the Raising, Arming, Cloathing and Discipline of the British Infantry and Cavalry. 8 plates. and with: The Manual Exercise. 2 folding plates. 8vo, contemporary calf, nicely restored along joints; foxing and browning particularly to volume one; elaborate ownership inscription by Major Eli West on the front blank of volume one [see note below], other owners's inscriptions on titles and endpapers, two early booklabels on the front pastedown of volume one (William Gaston of Newbern NC and Hannah McClure). Appears to be a matched set, with varying ownership inscriptions or stamps in each volume. Philadelphia: Humphreys, Bell & Aitken, 1776
