Frankfurt a Main, P. Schmidt for S. Feyerabend & S. Hüter, 8vo: [11-1 bl.]-ff. 19th-c. black half morocco, covers with marbled paper, gilt-titled spine with raised bands, sp. edges. Very good copy. First edition of the Latin translation of Reynard the Fox by the German Neo-Latin poet H. Schopper (1542-1595). The medieval Reynard cycle of stories (satirical allegories rather than stories for children), in which the trickster fox outwits his enemies, often the greedy and dull-witted wolf, was popular throughout Europe. woodcuts by Jost Amman (mostly after Virgil Solis).
