Beschreibung:

Robert Indiana (1928-2018) Love Stamps A complete sheet of U.S. Postal Service stamps printed in colours, 1973, from the edition of an unknown size, published by the U.S. Postal Service, New York, with full margins, sheet 260 x 230mm (10 1/4 x 9in) (framed) Indiana most famous artwork is undoubtedly his 'LOVE' image, featuring the work spelt out in uppercase letters in a square. He first used the motif in 1958, when he stacked 'LO' and 'VE' on top of one another in a series of poems. The word then resurfaced in his painting 'Love is God' of 1964. Later that year, Indiana created the now iconic red/blue/green colourway 'LOVE' for a Christmas Card available from the Museum of Modern Art. The motif then went on to be used in exhibition posters, screenprints, sculpture and, as in the present example, as the image for an eight-cent U.S. Postal Service postage stamp in 1973, the first of their regular series of "Love Stamps".
