Provenance: Corporate collection, Stockholm. In 1947 Richard Mortensen and Robert Jacobsen travelled to Paris. The stay in Paris was of great importance to their artistic development, since it was here they were introduced to the concrete art movement which had a strong emphasis on geometrical abstraction. Both artists were greatly influenced by this. Robert Jacobsen started exploring his expressive abstract style in a wide range of materials from iron sculptures to delicate pastels while Richard Mortensen examined the dynamic between organic and geometric shapes in bright colours. Despite the difference in their individual artistic expression both artists are today still seen as the danish pioneers of this daring artistic movement of the modern age.
