ROBERT ST. JOHN ROPER, (1913 - 1977) A COLLECTION OF THEATRE COSTUME DESIGNS 1950s; a group of twelve designs for Mother Goose, London Palladium, pencil and gouache on board, five signed, three designs for Principal Boy, one with silver fabric swatch attached, printed green stamps R. St. John Roper Ltd., a design for George Mitchell as Sailors, together with five smaller designs for various characters including Miller, Blacksmith, Beadle etc., stamped 'Production Department Moss's Empires Limited, two costume designs for unknown characters and a sheet of designs for various animal costumes, all extensively annotated in pencil, the largest 54.5cm x 37.5cm. * Robert St. John Roper, a prolific theatre costume designer during the 1940s and 50s, working on numerous productions at the Windmill Theatre and the London Palladium. Mother Goose, the pantomime, ran at the London Palladium from 1954 - 1955, starring Peter Sellers, Max Bygraves and Shirley Eaton.
