ROME AND ITALY]. -- GIOVANNOLI, Aloisio (1550-1618). Vedute degli antichi vestigi di Roma... divise in due parti. Rome, [c.1750]. 2 parts in one volume. Oblong 2 o (274 x 419 mm). 103 (of 106) etched and engraved plates (lacks three plates and folding map). (Some browning and staining, a few plates with marginal tears some with old repairs.) Contemporary vellum (worn). Later edition of the largest series of views of Rome of the early 17th century. "Dispite the coarseness of the images, which he made using the mixed procedure of etching and engraving, Giovannoli's illustrations contain many details that cannot be found elsewhere" (Millard). Oblong 2 o (385 x 580 mm). 4 parts in one volume 4 engraved titles, 4 dedications and 108 plates, all engraved by Falda and Venturini (Some plates with light staining, or light marginal dustsoiling.) Disbound and housed in a cloth folding case. A 19th-century reissue of Falda's famous work from the original plates, some plates with the : "Calcografia di Roma" blindstamp in plate margin. "This collection of plates is the most charming that has ever appeared on the fountains of Rome and its environs" (Fowler). The precise date of the original publication of these plates is unknown but c.1675-1685. See Fowler, pp. 97-99; Berlin Kat. 3603-4. MISSIRINI, Melchior (1773-1849). La Piazza del Granduca di Firenze.... Florence: Luigi Bardi, 1830. 2 o (438 x 290 mm). Engraved title, 3 aquatint views by Fumagalli after Moritz and 18 line engravings of the monuments by Lasinio after Pieracini (some light staining and a few marginal tears). Early 20th century half cloth (some rubbing and staining to spine). FIRST EDITION of this collection of street views and monuments of Florence. Berlin Kat. 2748s. GOLDICUTT, John (1793-1842). Antiquities of Sicily. London: John Murray 1819. 2 o (430 x 358 mm). Engraved pictorial title and 41 plates and plans after Goldicutt (some staining, margnial worming at beginning). Contemporary half morocco (broken). Provenance : Sir John Wormald (armorial bookplate). FIRST EDITION. After training as an architect and studying at the Royal Academy, Goldicutt travelled through Italy and Sicily in 1815 and 1816. During a visit to Rome he was awarded a medal from Pope Pius VII for a drawing of St. Peters. Blackmer 699. BIANCHINI, Giuseppe Maria (1685-1749). Dei Gran Duchi di Toscana della Real Casa de' Medici.... Venice: Giovanni Battista Recurti, 1741. Title in red and black with engraved vignette, arms of the dedicatee on the next page, engraved frontispiece, 9 (of 10?) portraits by various artists after Giovanni Domenico Campiglia headpieces, tailpieces and initials, half-title. Contemporary Italian vellum (light wear to corners). FIRST EDITION of the biographical work on the Medici, with engraved portraits. (5)
