Contemporary marbled wrappers (upper cover detatched, backstrip torn with loss), 20th-century blue cloth box, blue morocco lettering-piece to spine. Provenance : Early blue ink stamp for an unidentified library; Baron Horace de Landau (1824-1903, monogrammed bookplate). Extraordinary Sammelband documenting the the controversy over the construction of the new building to house the Biblioteca Casanatense. The Jesuits of the Collegio Romano complained that the new building would obscure several of their rooms, including a number of classrooms, and controversy and litigation ensued; the above volume contains seven legal documents and expert opinions, all of which escaped the notice of Ottino & Fumagalli. Girolamo Casanate (1620-1700), appointed Cardinal by Clement X, formed one of the foremost private libraries of his day; Casanate founded the Biblioteca Casanatensis as a public institution; it remains one of the principal collections of incunabula and early printed books in Italy.
