Rome.- Merian the Elder (Matthaeus, 1593-1650) Roma, panoramic view after Antonio Tempesta's original monumental 12 sheet map, from Merian's 'Theatrum Europeum', engraving, on laid paper with indistinct watermark device, on four sheets joined, 340 x 730 mm. (13 1/2 x 28 3/4 in), a good impression with plate tone, minor handling creases, light surface dirt and browning, Frankfurt, [circa 1650]; together with Rome MDCCCXLIX, a panoramic view of Rome published as a supplement to The Illustrated London News, and with Rome in 1890, a supplement to The Graphic, with separate leaf featuring printed key, wood-engravings, 470 x 1090 mm. (18 1/2 x 43 in), and 605 x 820 mm. (23 3/4 x 32 1/4 in), respectively, handling creases, folds, some nicks, tears, and minor loss to sheet, both unframed, circa 1850 and 1890, (3).
