Rozier gives extracts from Horace, Aulus, Gellius, Kirchner, Schott, Carden, Claudius, Del Rio, and others, and contests Montgolfier's claim to the honour of the invention of the balloon. The author alleges the uselessness and danger of balloons and the impossibility of steering them. Brockett 10599 -- PILÂTRE DE ROZIER. La Vie et les Mémoires... Paris, 1785. 4 engraved plates. 8vo, three quarter calf; lacks portrait frontispiece. Pilatre de Rozier was the first balloon pilot and also the first casualty in a balloon in 1785. (2)
