RUBENS, Peter Paul (1557-1640). Palazzi antichi di Genova. Palazzi moderni di Genova. Antwerp: Enrico e Cornelio Verdussen, 1708. 2 works bound in one volume, 2° (579 x 420mm). Title to each part wih engraved vignette. Part 1 with 72 numbered engraved plates on 71 leaves, plate 1 signed by N. Ryckemans. No text. Part 2 with one leaf of text (Rubens' address to the reader on recto, license on verso) and 65 (of 67) numbered engraved plates. A few plates folding. (Pt. 2 lacking plates 9 and 63, title to pt. 1 creased, some marginal waterstains, heavy on title to pt. 2, some worming in gutter.) Contemporary blue boards (recently rebacked and recornered in calf). The two parts appeared together in 1622, 1652, 1663 and 1708, and again in 1755. Fowler 227 notes that 'most authorities agree that the second series of plates was not the work of Rubens'.
