RUSSIA -- ELIZABETH, Empress of Russia (1742-62). Gramota [grant of lands] in favour of Andrei Fin, signed by seven state councillors, St. Petersburg, 8 August 1748.
RUSSIA -- ELIZABETH, Empress of Russia (1742-62). Gramota [grant of lands] in favour of Andrei Fin, signed by seven state councillors, St. Petersburg, 8 August 1748. Illuminated manuscript on vellum, 3 pages on one folding bifolium, 2° (525 x 377mm), the first page with very fine illumination with the Imperial cypher within drape and arborial surround adorned with coats-of-arms, within foliate border with military attributes and floral motifs, all enclosing a shell and scroll cartouche with text in gold, the second and third pages with text in gold and black within foliate border with the imperial cypher and military attributes on upper and lower borders, with floral motifs at intervals, the signatures with names and titles on the third page, with gold-thread brocade cord suspending a wax seal in gilt-metal case, the upper detachable cover repoussé, chased and engraved with the imperial arms, and with two tassles. (Some soiling to the vellum.) Modern cloth box. A GRANT OF LAND FROM THE AGE OF ELIZABETH. The text refers to grants of lands in Lifland, Livonia in the Baltic states, given by Peter the Great in 1720, with further grants by Catherine I in 1725 and Peter II in 1727, for his services to the Russian state, which since had been confiscated in 1732; hereby returned by the empress. The signatures are of Senators Count N. Trubetskoi (1667-1750), Count A. Bestuzhev-Riumin (1692-1761), Count A. Kurakin (1697-1749), Count Ivan Shcherbatov (1696-1761), Count Aleksei Golitsyn (1697-1768), Count Petr Shuvalov (1711-1762) and the state secretary Pavel Severgin.
