The author, who wrote the book at the age of 68, is described in the sub-title as 'Sieur de La Renodie en Perigort, Gentil-homme Lymosin.' His manuscript was read and corrected before publication by Charles d'Albert, Duc de Luynes, 'grand Fauconnier de France,' to whom the book is dedicated. There are eight chapters on hawking, the 'Discours sur la Loüange de la Chasse,' in praise of the chase, follows on pp. 396-423, while 'L'Adieu de l'autheur à son livre,' a sonnet, is printed on the verso of p. 423. The inserted manuscript notes of Reynold de Cressier, the owner of this copy, have the added interest of being remedies for minor ailments and for the maintenance of general health in birds of prey. Brunet V, 35; Harting 155; Ronsil 3492; Schwerdt II, p. 142; Souhart 413; Thiébaud 795: 'un ouvrage des plus rare et qui n'a eu que cette édition.'
