SASSICAIA Conditions were particularly favorable in 1998, with very little rainfall from May 15th until the last week of September, and elevated temperatures (31 0C) from July onwards. In contrast to the previous year, there was virtually no rainfall in August (compared to 30 mm in 1997). The grapes were already very ripe at the beginning of September when the harvest started. This lasted for three weeks without interruption. The result is a wine of very fine structure and richness, yet maintaining a notable finesse and sweetness of tannins, a characteristic common to all the vintages of Sassicaia. The wine shows great intensity and depth on the palate. The wine was aged for 23 months in French oak, 40 of which was new. It was bottled before the end of October 2000. As with all vintages of Sassicaia, the wine needs 3-5 years before they begin to show of their best. This is probably the best vintage of Sassicaia since 1985. Sassicaia--Vintage 1998 Tuscany. Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta 1 dozen bottles per dozen
