New-Harmony, Indiana: printed at the School Press, 1830[-1838]. 7 parts in two volumes (parts I-VI in one vol, 8° [208 x 135mm], part VII, 8° [250 x 150mm.]). 68 hand-coloured engraved plates by C. Tiebout, L. Lyon and I. Walker, after Lucy Say or Charles A. Lesueur. (Plates 6, 16, 19 and 20 spotted, plates 54, 56-60 browned, occasional offsetting of text onto plates, text with some browning and spotting, occasionally heavy.) One vol. containing parts I-VI: 20th-century roan-backed boards (extremities scuffed); part VII: original blue paper wrappers (backstrip split, small marginal tears with slight loss). Provenance : Quebec Literary & Historical Society (two small ink stamps to title of vol. containing parts I-VI). RARE COMPLETE SET OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THIS IMPORTANT EARLY AMERICAN CONCHOLOGY, WITH COLOURED PLATES THROUGHOUT, written and printed at Robert Owen's Utopian community of New Harmony, Indiana.
