School of Palma Giovane The Flagellation of Christ Oil on panel 34 x 23 1/2 inches (86.4 x 59.7 cm) This work, which was possibly intended as an organ door, is closely related to an engraving by Aegidius Sadeler the Younger, which records the composition of a now-lost Flagellation by Palma formerly in the now-demolished Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Venice. Zampetti, Palma il Giovane, Bergamo, 1980, 676) C
Panel cradled. Scattered touches of restoration throughout, including vertical lines to address old cracks in the panel at upper left and lower center. Frame abrasion along the edges, and an abrasion with paint loss at upper center.
