SCHWERDT, C.F.G.R. (1862-1939). Hunting Hawking Shooting illustrated in a Catalogue of Books Manuscripts Prints and Drawings Collected by C.F.G.R. Schwerdt . London: privately printed for the author, 1928-1937. 4 volumes, large 4° (323mm x 260mm). Engraved vignette on title and 382 plates, of which 4 double-page and 10 folding, a small number chromolithographic, many others mounted colour collotypes. Gilt-lettered red morocco by Kelly and Sons, top edge gilt, others uncut (some light water-staining, boards slightly bowed, one or two corner bumps). NUMBER 35 OF 300 COPIES signed by Schwerdt in volumes I and IV. Although this set does not have Schwerdt's arms on the spines, it has the same provenance as the set above and can be regarded as his own copy. The full red morocco distinguishes it from the standard green morocco binding. The extent of the colour illustration, unusual in a book published between the wars, deserves strong appreciation. (4)
