Keulemans, illustrations in the text. (Number of plate VIII trimmed at outer margin, not affecting image, occasional very light spotting.) Modern dark purple morocco gilt, spine gilt in six compartments, lettered in two, t.e.g., by Christian Sinder of Eastbourne, original wrappers to each volume bound in. Provenance : William Edward Oates (armorial bookplate dated 1897); Robert Washington Oates (armorial bookplate and label, loosely inserted invoice from Hodgson & Co. auctioneers, dated 1928, stamps of the Bibliotheca Zoologica Oatesiana of Eastbourne on titles and final leaves). FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 200 COPIES of which this is number 83, signed by the authors on the limitation leaf. Sclater provided the description of each of the 434 species of Argentine birds featured, whilst Hudson wrote the detailed notes on their habits. Hudson's portion of the text was reprinted in 1920 under the title of Birds of La Plata .
