Second World War letters.- MacFarlane Grant (Ian, Major, serving in the Middle East during the Second World War, & his wife Rae Gemmell Grant, OBE, of Glasgow, later Edinburgh, 1920-2003) Large correspondence to his wife Rae, to various addresses in Scotland and England, numerous pp., Cairo & elsewhere in the Middle East, 1940-45 & 1975, on various matters between a husband and wife separated by war, "I agree with you, dearest, in your remarks about an enforced separation but it doesn't seem so bad in retrospect now that the prospect of coming together again reasonably soon. And what a lovely time we are going to have. I've no particular plans - not like the fellow I heard of whose wife wrote to him and asked him for his views regarding redecorating their house. His reply was that she should have the bedroom ceiling prettily painted as that was all she would be seeing for quite a while after he got back! But no doubt you get the general idea??", folds, browned; and small quantity of others, including wedding invitations, invitations, newspaper cuttings, an OBE certificate with facsimile signature "Elizabeth R" and "Philip" awarded to Rae Grant for political service in Scotland, 1982 etc., v.s., v.d. (c. 500 pieces).
