Davis writes: Sir you will find accompanying this letter a sample of arms I wish you to use if you should succeed in getting up a [sic] army in your Section of County to aid us in our struggle for our rights. Mr. Miller if you are successful you shall have a [sic] exalted commission in the Army for I think your qualifications are amply sufficient to take the highest command of the Army and your aid and assistance would be very cordially received and your name be honored when you are lying in your grave when you have your men all ready or when near so you will please let me know and I will forward you secretly arms and amunition[sic] sufficient to reach into our lines in Boxes marked (Plantation Bitters) which I think is the safest way to be detected in this great and noble undertaking. I remain yours as ever Jeff Davis Saml. Minus Sect. Condition: Split into three pieces along folds, but not paper appears to be missing.
