Since the 1960's, Waldman has been an active member of the Outrider experimental poetry community as a writer, performer, collaborator, professor, editor, scholar, and cultural/political activist. In 1974, with Allen Ginsberg and others, Waldman founded the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at the Naropa Institute in Boulder Colorado (now Naropa University).
