Ottoline Morrell's ownership signature dated 1916, with indications of re-reading, December 1920 to January 1921 and again in 1938 while in Sherwood Park Clinic, Tunbridge Wells. Copious annotation, notes and page references. Morrell had been devoted to Shelley since the 1890s. 'What is it that Shelley and all the fine spirits longed for and never found? We all strive and batter our wings against the cage of this life, passionately longing for some golden clime, some elixir that is seldom found' ( Early Memoirs, p.222). MEREDITH, George (1828-1909).
