Beschreibung:

Sioban Coppinger Green man of the Landscape Giclee on canvas Signed in pencil and numbered 3/100 138 x 81.5cm (54¼ x 32 in.) Unframed Similar works by this artist retail at: £800 The 'Greenman' motif has given full reign to the imagination of artists and craftsmen for centuries, and often with remarkably little hindrance from fact or history. It makes a rich seam for any artist ... there are no rules. The GREENMAN OF THE LANDSCAPE also follows a tradition of blurred boundaries between man and nature so often seen in Sioban's work. It was initially inspired as a tribute to the first 'Landscape Gardener', Humphry Repton Sioban Coppinger: Sioban Coppinger is known nationally and internationally for her sculpture, drawing and prints. She undertakes commissions and exhibits regularly. Her work is held in public and private collections throughout the world…from Australia and Ireland, to New Zealand, Switzerland and the USA. Sioban s numerous gentle and witty public sculptures have been adopted as landmarks in the UK, from Glasgow to Birmingham, and Nottinghamshire to Somerset. Her sculptures appear to have grown out of their environment, some with a lightness of touch as if they could take flight, others with a presence that is startlingly strong. Yet there is often serenity and grace. Her marque is attention to craftsmanship, executed with a sure hand. Seeing few distinctions between mankind, creatures, or even the substance of the earth, Sioban offers an accessible, sometimes humorous connection. She is however unafraid to hint at darker aspects, as noted by Ernst Gombrich in his last collected essays, Uses of Images (Phaidon Press). Sioban, known for versatility, is always curious about new ways of making. By innovative use of materials and acute observation, the work subtly challenges our concept of what is contemporary. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Sculptors and Past Treasurer, and a Fellow of the RSA.
