A fisherman and dog, with horse and foal: Strong pencil, only minor surface dirt to the sheet. The paper has uneven edges which are covered by the present mount. The work is sold unframed.

They formed the basis for the lively paintings of Scottish subjects which found a ready market with his patrons, including the Dukes of Northumberland, Bedford, Atholl, Gordon and Wellington, all of whom commissioned Scottish subjects from the artist in the 1820s and 1830s.
The present sheet, as with lot 198, once belonged to Landseer's friend Frederick Richard Lee  R.A..
