SIX JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINTS, MOSTLY EDO. Contained in matching glazed frames and including examples by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (Japanese 1797 – 1861), Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (Japanese 1839-1892) and Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) (Japanese 1786 – 1865). The first from Kuniyoshi’s series “Heroic Stories of the Taiheiki, Part I” depicts a warrior wearing a straw raincoat over his armor and wielding a hoe. The second depicting Musashibo Benkei (warrior monk) wearing court dress over armor, seated with ink and a brush before him, from the Utagawa Kuniyoshi series “Stories of a Hundred Heroes of High Renown.” The third image an example from Yoshitoshi’s series “100 Ghost Stories” showing the poet Narihira staring out into the darkness. The fourth print another Kunisada example depicting a woman in elaborate dress standing in an interior scene. The fifth image depicts a seated woman playing a musical instrument from Kunisada’s series “One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets.” The last example showing a half-length portrait of an actor against a background with a poem, from an untitled series printed by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III). Each image approximately 13.4 inches x 9.5 inches (34 x 24 cm), including frame each approximately 25 inches x 16.5 inches (52 x 42 cm).
