Lot of 16 group portraits, including six daguerreotype, five ambrotypes, and five tintypes,in both sixth and quarter plate sizes. Images show pairs or groups of young men and women, often arranged with thoughtful compositional hierarchies. Of particular interest are the larger group portraits, including a quarter plate tintype showing five men and five women in dark clothing, with the subjects looking in several different directions; a sixth plate tintype of two well dressed couples; a quarter plate ambrotype of three young women seated in a slightly staggered arrangement and holding hands, housed in the Alone at the Rendezvous case [Berg 1-35]; and a fascinating sixth plate daguerreotype of a young couple with a second, seemingly disinterested woman standing between them. Many images feature duos of women, many of whom wear boldly patterned dresses: a sixth plate daguerreotype presents two women, possibly sisters, seated side by side with their fingers intertwined, while a sixth plate ambrotype shows two recumbent young women with dark outwear and a parasol. Also of note is a tintype of two standing ladies clad in long, elegant coats. Other images show pairs of men or family groupings, including a quarter plate daguerreotype of a husband and wife with their young son and two adult daughters, as well as an interesting ambrotype of a woman holding a baby in an outdoor space, with two additional women standing on either side.
