Sixth plate, outdoor daguerreotype of Dr. James Pidgeon, mounted on horseback, most likely taken in Missouri, Indiana, or Ohio. Accompanied by handwritten note that reads: Dr. James Pidgeon/ Died at Winchester Ohio of Paralysis. Housed in half, pressed paper case. James E. Pidgeon was born in Ohio about 1833 to his parents, Issac and Ara Ann. He was the oldest son of eight children. His father was a successful farmer and, according to an 1850 census, James Pidgeon worked the land with him. He married Caroline (Carrie) Fuller sometime in the 1860s in Missouri, Ohio, or Indiana. She most likely was his second marriage. He had two children, including Clara, who was born in Indiana in 1854, and Albert, who was born in 1863 in Missouri. The History of Clinton County, Ohio: Its People, Industries, and Institutions by Albert J. Brown lists Pidgeon as captain in the Clinton County Ohio militia in 1863. Further records of his military service could not be found. It is not known where Pidgeon attended medical school, but, in 1880, he listed his occupation as a physician. He owned 500 dollars in real estate, compared to his wife who owned 10,000 dollars. In 1882, Dr. Pidgeon died in Winchester of paralysis. Condition: Some solarization of the image, housed in half case, and no original seals.
