Author: Stoddard, Amos, Major Place: Philadelphia Publisher: Mathew Carey Date: 1812 Description: viii,172,175-488 pp.(8vo) 21.5x13 cm (8½x5"), period calf, spine with gilt design, morocco label with gilt lettering, marbled edges and endpapers.. With the bookplate of A. J. Tullock. One of the classic early descriptions of upper and lower Louisiana, based on the author's service there in the previous decade as civil and military commandant. His book is one of the earliest historical treatises concerning the regions extending to the Pacific, including descriptions of Indian tribes of this virtually unknown wilderness.
