40 original watercolor drawings of hoofed animals from India (24), Tibet (8), and Nepal (8), sheet size approx. 420 x 330 mm each, [England and France, after 1846], on wove Whatman paper watermark dated 1846, mostly captioned in pencil in Latin, English and French, housed in 3 green solander boxes. About 5 plates with minor freckling, some with evidence of being disbound. Smith collaborated with the French naturalist Baron Georges Cuvier in the publication of Mammalia (1827) and also contributed to the illustration of Jardine's Naturalist's Library. Illustrations here include a great variety of deer, mountain goats, yaks, antelopes, etc., in naturalistic settings. See illustrations.
