SMITH & Son, London Smith's TERRESTRIAL GLOBE containing the whole of THE LATEST DISCOVERIES IN AUSTRALIA AFRICA AND THE ARCTIC REGIONS also the direction of the Ocean Currents LONDON SMITH & SON, 63 CHARING CROSS [c.1870] A 13-inch (33cm.) diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve engraved gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the meridian of Greenwich ungraduated, the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, the oceans with an analemma, ocean currents, and the tracks of Cook, la Perouse, Clerke, Vancouver and Gore, Antarctica with portions of coastline and the southern Magnetic Pole, the continents with various nation states hand-outlined in yellow or blue and showing numerous details including towns, cities and rivers ( numerous repairs, areas of loss of fine detail, some redrawing, some discolouration ) with a stamped brass hour dial and meridian circle, the mahogany horizon with engraved paper ring showing degrees of amplitude and azimuth, compass directions, days of the houses of the Zodiac and of the month, raise don four baluster-turned legs united by cross-stretchers -- 18½in.
