SOLDIERS' LETTERS, UNION, CONNECTICUT]. GRISWOLD, EDWARD. Autograph letter signed, Beaufort, South Carolina, 25 April 1862, 4 pages, 8vo, pictorial stationery with Union device , "...Government is doing quite a business here. There has been a great deal of cotton taken from here, almost everyday steamers go down the river loaded with it...the darkies have been set to work on the plantations which are doing fine and everything looks as you might know it would when Yankees get hold of it...It is reported that Yorktown has been taken, 40,000 prisoners and that Rebel steamer Merrimac is sunk...." -- GRISWOLD, E.
