Very rare and unusual set of 80 stereoviews in two boxes. Each box with an imprinted label on the lid Views of White Mountain Scenery / From No. 41 to No. 80 and From No. 201 to No. 240 / Wm. D. Porter. All views are circa early 1860s, on yellow or ivory square-corner mounts, and seem to be a "best of" collection compiled from several different photographers and publishers, including Langenheim, Kilburn Brothers, Bierstadt Brothers, N.W. Pease, Paul & Curtis, E. Anthony (photos by F.B. Gage), Frank Rowell, Franklin White J.P. Soule, London Stereoscopic Co., and American Stereoscopic Co. Each view with Porter's printed label in upper right of verso designating the number in HIS set (see image #3). Provenance: From the Estate of Kenneth Erwin, Portland, Michigan Condition: All views very good, with only very minor corner wear and/or very light soiling. Boxes separating at edges.
