Strömgren og Olsen Strömgren og Olsen navigator deck silver watch, so-called “combined sidereal and mean time watch”, white dial with three subdials, subsidiary dial with Arabic 24 hours at “3” showing the solar time, subsidiary dial for seconds at “6”, subsidiary dial with Roman hours at “9” showing the sideral time, outer Arabic minute ring, signed Patent, Strømgren og Olsen, No. 527, single blued Brequet hand and a golden with sun pointer. Cases numbered 54329, back case marked A.H. Geneve for Alexandre Hüning. 1918–1920. Diam. 58 mm. The watch was patented in 1918 by the Danish watchmaker Jens Olsen (1872–1945) and the Swedish astronomer Svante Ellis Strömgren (1870–1947). The watch was conceived for astronomical navigation on sea and continuously shows the sideral time and the mean solar time of a selected time zone. Provenance: Military doctor, astrologer and etnographic collector Agner Møller (1892–1976). Agner Møller was stationed as a military doctor on the island of Nias in the Dutch East Indies in the 1920s. From here he bought and returned cultural objects to the Danish National Museum and thus contributed to the museum's unique collection of objects from the island.
