There are small discoloured retouchings visible scattered in the background as well as in his red cloak. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms some of the aforementioned retouchings underneath the milky varnish and further reveals a few tiny retouchings in his nose, left eyebrow, beneath his left eye, beneath his lip and a few further tiny retouchings scattered in the rest of the composition. The painting is in overall good condition.
