Manuscript document signed ("P Stuyvesant" with calligraphic flourish), Fort Orange, New Amsterdam [New York], 25 October 1653. 1 page, an oblong (12½ x 15 7/8 in.) large papered wax seal with cut-paper overlay at lower left (a crest with a large beaver, suorrounded by legend "Sigillum Novi Belgii"), text in an ornate Dutch court hand (signed at bottom by scribe Jacob Kip), in Dutch, slight fold separation along central vertical fold, without significant loss . With full Dutch transcript and English translation. STUYESANT CONFIRMS A GRANT OF LAND IN FRONTIER NEW NETHERLANDS, 1653 Governor Stuyvesant affirms that "We, Petrus Stuyvesant, Director General and Councilors on behalf of the honorable High Mightinesses, the Lords States General of the United Netherlands and the honorable Directors of the chartered West India Company, residing in New Netherland...have approved and granted to Reyyer Elbertsen a lot for a house and garden, lying within the boundary posts of Fort Orange and the village of Beverwijck, bounded on the east by Juryaen de Glaesmaker [i.e., the glazier], to the west by the thicket of the third kil [i.e., stream, aka de Vossen Kil]...with ...stipulations that he...shall recognize the honorable lords Directors as his lords...under the sovereignty of their High Mightinesses...and to obey the Director and Councilors...subjecting himself to such orders and regulations devised or yet to be devised...promising furthermore to hold this conveyance firmly binding...This is hereby acknowledged by our signatures and with our seal in red wax affixed below... An excellent example, with a strong signature and intact seal.
