Collation: A 6 a-l 8 m 4 n-x 8 y 6 z 8 & 8 6 A-G 8 H-T 6 V 4 (A1 title, A2r dedicatory letter by Beroaldus to Hannibal Bentivolus, A5r Breviarium rerum memorabilium quae in commentario insunt , a1r second title, a1v Life of Suetonius by Beroaldus, eulogy on Julius Caesar a2r text with commentary, T1v Appendix annotamentorum dedicated to Hannibal Bentivolus, V2v address to reader, epigrams by Ioannes Baptista and Ugerius Pontremulensis, colophon and printer's device (Kristeller 11), V3r register, V3v-4 blank). 334 leaves. 56 lines of commentary surrounding text, and headline. Types: 1:110R (text), 2:84R (commentary), Greek. 2- to 8-line initial spaces, some with guide-letters. (Light foxing, small wormholes in final quires affecting a few letters.) Modern paper boards, leather spine label, title written on lower edge, endpapers from a 19th-century ms. map of lands of Du Pont de Remy. Provenance : inscription and stamp washed from title. First edition with the commentary of the humanist scholar Beroaldus, and the first book printed by Benedictus Hectoris. Hectoris added this Greek fount to his case specifically to print this book.
