SUISETH, Richard (fl.1340-1355). Opus aureum calculationum . Edited by Joannes de Cipro. Padua: [N.T.S.P., ca. 1477]. Super-chancery 2° (316 x 234mm). Collation: a 10 b 8 c 6 cc 6 d-h 6 i-k 4 l-n 6 (a1 blank, a2r text, n6v blank). 85 (of 85, without first blank) leaves. 58 lines, double column. Type: 1:80R, some printed guide-letters. First 8-line initial in blue with red decoration, other initials and paragraph marks alternating in red and blue, quires relettered in manuscript (probably by the rubricator) to run consecutively a-o. (Tiny wormhole in a2 touching 3 letters only, tear in lower margin of final 9 leaves, very minor small stains on final blank, front inner hinge split.) 16th-century vellum over paper boards, modern blue half morocco slipcase. Provenance : Darmini (?) on first leaf; Constantin Le Paige (bookplate); Michel Chasles (bookplate); Robert Honeyman IV, (red leather bookplate, sale Sotheby's 19-20 May 1981, no.2944). FIRST EDITION of this widely-disseminated work on mathematics within physics. Written ca.1340-50, the iber calculationum found its way into the work of Gaietano de Thienis, Pietro Pomponazzi, etc., and was particularly influential in calcultory studies in Pavia and Padua, where this first edition was printed.
