SUPREME COURT, JUSTICES]. A very extensive collection of 69 autograph letters, letters and documents signed by 10 Chief and 59 Associate Justices, 1789-1923. Each letter neatly tipped to folio sheets preceded by an engraved portrait, hand illuminated titlepage. Binding: Full dark blue levant morocco gilt, covers with gilt-ruled borders and gilt-lettered, spine gilt in six compartments with American Eagle emblems, top edge gilt, red morocco inlaid doublures gilt, watered silk end pages, morocco-tipped protective case. A COMPLETE COLLECTION OF THE SUPREME COURT JUSTICES, JAY THROUGH BRANDEIS Apparently collected and bound together in the 1920s, the present collection is the most complete and choice collection of Supreme Court justices to have been offered in at least three decades. No fewer than 58 of the letters included are autograph letters signed; a further 6 are letters signed. The collection features excellent examples of even the rarest justices, such as James Iredell, Alfred Moore, Robert Trimble, John Catron, John McKinley, Peter V. Daniel and Robert Hanson Harrison (appointed 1789, but died before he served).
