Tipped in: Autograph letter signed from Swinburne to the author Augustus Hare, the Pines, Putney Hill, 3 February 1881, 3 pages, 8vo, on mourning stationery, nearly separated at center fold , a literary letter: "I am sincerely glad that my very imperfect & inadequate tribute to the memory of our illustrious friend should have given pleasure to one whose family name is indissolubly connected with his by the immortal record of a noble friendship. If ever I can -- in default of a better editor -- bring out an edition of his selected poems, with a prefatory essay on his place as a poet among the great names of our countrymen, I shall know that I have done him the only service in my power worthy alike of his claims & of my own affectionate veneration for him..."; with the Hare bookplate -- [SWINBURNE].
